Wednesday

The legs were supposed to be be tapered out but the angle that I shot this photo did not show it.

Moi and my table.
Finally, most of my FYP product prototypes are done. My project title is "
The 7 Daily Objects" and I did one object for each day. This object above titled the
1.618 table is for wednesday. Why wednesday? I based my ideas on a persona call Natalie.
Natalie is a representative of young Singaporeans in their 20s. Through her, I weaved a story of her life in a typical week. So I gave each day a word based on how natalie felt that day.
Monday: SLEEPNatalie dreads monday. After a fun filled weekend, all she wants is to sleep in late. She keeps snoozing the alarm on her mobile but finally drags herself out of bed at the fourth alarm. Her prayer was answered when she managed to snatch a seat in the MRT to take her 40 winks. At work, she managed to take a short nap at her cubicle while her boss was in a meeting. At 7pm after work, her energy level perks and her mood slightly better, knowing that monday is going to be over soon.
Tuesday: STARTNatalie thinks tuesday is the unoffical start of the week after the dreary monday, The momentum of the week sets in and begin with a set of daily rituals. She believes starting the day with positive thinking is vital to how the day goes and she pastes lots of post it notes filled with positive quotes at her cubicle to stay focus and clear. Natalie often joins her colleagues after work for a movie since movie tickets are cheaper for members on a tuesday.
Wednesday: WORKWednesday seems the most balanced day of the week. If wednesday is at the crest of a hump, so is Natalie’s workload. Packed with meetings and heavy workload as a graphic designer in an advertising agency, she can’t wait to end work to do some much needed grocery shopping at Cold Storage and refill her favourite Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. She always carry along an extra carrier for her grocerries as she likes to think she plays apart in being environmentally conscious. She zoomed off for her pilates class after that and enjoys how her body become totally relaxed after the class.
Thursday: WAITNatalie is all looking forward to thursday since friday is just one day after and everybody in the office seems more relaxed. Thursday is family day for her too as she will go back to her parent’s home for dinner. It’s a unspoken rule that she never breaks unless she has to work overtime. Despite the freedom of moving out and staying alone, Natalie do miss her mother’s cooking and the warm and joy of her family around her. Staying alone can gets lonely and quite at times.
Friday: EATEveryone in the office is in a TGIF mood and so is Natalie. She is counting down to 6pm so as to meet up with her bunch of girlfriends for a time of shopping and dinner. They made a pact to try a different restaurant each week and thus make it a point to find out about the latest restaurant around town. During dinner, they catch up with one another on their week and gossip about the juiciest news. Natalie thinks food brings people together.
Saturday: PLAYFinally a chance wake up later. Natalie does not set her alarm but allows herself to wake up naturally.( naturally late). She has her brunch before setting out to do some fun flea market shopping. She likes the idea of finding tresures within junks and often bought many 2nd hand furnitures and objects and gives it a 2nd life. She enjoys such fun activities and prefers to give her house a playful decor. Her dream will be to open a cafe using all her refurbished furnitures.
Sunday: BREATHESunday is church day for Natalie. She hangs out with her church friends after service for lunch before heading home for some own personal time. She indulge in her own “ME” time by going for some spa treatment or even try baking some cookies for her nieces and nephews she will meet later at grandma house. Dinner time is always a gathering of family and relatives at grandma’s house and it’s a ritual that no one breaks unless one is away in Singapore. Granny’s cooking is the best.
Using this scenario, I conceptualized a work desk for wednesday and based it on the idea of an 'anal retentive' personality ( someone who is super detailed and meticulous). I used the idea of the golden rectangle (the ratio of the golden number 1.618) as it is supposedly the most aesthetically pleasing ratio to the eye. My table is based on the dimensions of the golden rectangle. The table top has measurements etched on it as well.
